A tornado watch has been issued for south central Nebraska until 7 p.m. Monday, including North Platte, Lexington, Kearney, Grand Island, and York.
A North Platte 911 Dispatch Center RAVE alert indicated a land spout tornado spotted at about 12:20 p.m. four miles north of Nebraska Highway 23 and U.S. Highway 83 near North Platte Feeders.
Storms are expected to move across the area during the afternoon. Heavy rain and lightning will be common. Some storms are expected to produce wind gusts up to 70 mph and up to golf ball size hail. A couple of strong tornadoes are also possible.
Avoid unnecessary travel until 7 p.m. Make sure weather radios are turned on and cell phones are fully charged so you can be alerted if a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning is issued for your location. If a tornado warning is issued, a tornado has been spotted and may soon move over you. Seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a permanent building immediately.
