THE NSW Waratahs will open their 2019 Super Rugby season at Brookvale Oval as they continue their big push into rugby league’s heartland while Allianz Stadium is being rebuilt.

Just days after announcing the Waratahs will play three home matches at Parramatta’s new Western Sydney Stadium in 2019, comes the news that NSW will launch their season on Sydney’s northern beaches.

The Tahs’ will kick off their 2019 season at Brookvale Oval when they host New Zealand’s Hurricanes on February 16.

NSW played a Super Rugby match at Brookvale Stadium this season and it was such a roaring success that NSW Rugby CEO Andrew Hore said it was an easy decision to come back.

“We had a great crowd at Brookie this year, chanting NSW and creating a fantastic atmosphere for the Tahs,” Hore said.

“They love their rugby in that part of the world and it is great to return to the suburbs and kick off our 2019 Super Rugby campaign there.”

The Waratahs are scheduled to host a total of eight home games next year and are still to confirm which grounds will host their remaining four matches but have indicated at least one will go to regional NSW.
