Belski's Blog - Number of earthquakes for each state in the last year
The numbers may surprise you
The numbers may surprise you
Updated Friday, July 13..........
Last night I posted on social media about the number of earthquakes near the volcano in Hawaii. The numbers are just amazing with that area averaging an earthquake every 3 minutes. This got me to thinking about what are the numbers for the rest of the U.S.
Before we get to the state totals, here are the numbers for Louisville.
10 months ago there was a 3.8 quake in SE Illinois that was felt here and then before that it was 3 years ago for a minor one in Shelby Co.
.
So except for an occasional minor to moderate quake, things have been pretty quiet here. It is a different story for western Kentucky which is near the New Madrid fault in Missouri.
On the list below.... this includes the number of quakes above 1.5 that have been felt in each state. The quake did not have to originate in that state, just felt in it.
