“Hurricane Preparatory Academy [Hurricane Prep] will serve a diverse population of students. Team Hurricane recognizes the need to provide a summer program that acknowledges the extensive influence that the arts and sports have on our children and society. In alignment with its mission, Hurricane Preparatory will develop students into empowered, creative thinkers.

“On the heels of a successful launch with its Christmas Holiday Camp, Douglas Reed, Founder and President of Team Hurricane Basketball Academy, believes in the sports and arts formula for Team Hurricane camps. ‘The arts experience boosts critical thinking, teaching young people to take the time to be more careful and thorough in how they observe the world. And through sports, students get the qualities of leadership, sharing, team spirit and tolerance.’

“Hurricane Prep’s Tutoring Services is a one on one/small group experience for those students looking to improve their skills in the area of creative writing and/or response to literature writing.

“From shared reading, students will get a chance to generate their own meanings as they read and compose from their own thoughts as they write. The intent is to have students grow as readers and writers by requiring them to use their own background knowledge to construct personal meaning and encourage, in writing, the integration of new experiences with past ones.
