Who is Eurovision 2024 host Petra Mede?

Petra Mede is a Swedish comedienne, dance, actress and TV presenter.

She was born on March 7, 1970, in Stockholm, but she grew up in Partille, near Gothenburg.

Her parents are Ulla Elisabet and entrepreneur Klas Håkan Mede.

Petra has a younger sister named Anne Mede Ageling.

Petra has hosted the Eurovision two times already.

She is hosting for a third time the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday May 11, 2024 in Malmö.

In May 2013, Mede hosted as first solo presenter since 1995 the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö.

And in 2015, Mede hosted together with Graham Norton the Eurovision's Greatest Hits EBU/BBC 60th anniversary concert at the Eventim Apollo, in Hammersmith, London.

The last time she presented the show in 2016 after Sweden won the year before with Måns Zelmerlöw's Heroes.

On her return she said: "Imagine getting the chance to host Eurovision once again!

"It's such an incredible honour.

"After first hosting it alone and then together with the delightful Måns by my side, I am now really looking forward to working with Malin.

"We don't know each other from before, but we have met a couple of times now, and I'm already completely sold.

"It's going to be a joy to work with her!"

What is Petra Mede famous for?

Petra Mede is best known for her several roles in comic shows and as a television presenter in Sweden.

She started her career as a dancer at a ballet academy.

However her dancer career was cut short due to a back injury when she was 20 years old.

She then worked as a backing singer for Celine Dion before moving to comedy at around 30 years old.

In 2008, she and Swedish presenter Anna Maria Granath wrote the parody book More Self-Esteem than You Can Handle and she participated in the TV shows Stockholm Live and Babben & Co.

Her first encounter with Eurovision Song Contest was in 2009 when she hosted Melodifestivalen 2009, where the Swedish entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 was chosen.

In 2016 Petra dubbed Destiny from Finding Dory for the Swedish version.

Is Petra Mede married and does she have children?

As of May 2024, Petra Mede is not married.

In 2012 she and former partner Mattias Günther welcomed their daughter Adeline Günther.

However, it was confirmed that the pair split in 2015.

In 2022, she gave birth to her second daughter.

She said about her second pregnancy in an interview: "I am so incredibly happy and lucky and feel very, very privileged. 

"You take one day at a time. 

"Nothing is obvious, a pregnancy is never obvious. 

"I can’t wait until we finish."

Petra also confirmed that there was no father and that she would raise her second daughter on her own.

Alongside Petra Mede, Malin Akerman will be hosting the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest Grad Final, which is taking place in Sweden after Loreen's win in Liverpool in 2023.

Malin is a well-known actress and presenter in Sweden and has played roles in movies such Rock of Ages, The Heartbreak Kid and 27 Dresses.

She said about hosting the Eurovision Song Contest: "I can’t really describe my feelings about this.

"I am very excited and a little nervous, but in a positive way.

"I have always liked Eurovision and to be a part of this fantastic show together with Petra is a dream come true.

"Additionally, Petra is one of the funniest women I’ve ever met."

In 1999, a rule change allowed the United Kingdom, along with France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, to automatically qualify for the final, as they bring in the most revenue for the Song Contest.
