Effective April 15, 2024, Guam Regional Medical City has permitted outside food, aiming to foster patient autonomy, embrace cultural and dietary diversity, enhance patient satisfaction, and minimize food waste.

The following guidelines will reflect GRMC’s new outside food policy:

ALIGNED WITH THE PATIENT’S MEDICAL CARE

  • Consult the Attending Physician/Dietitian/Nurse about the patient’s diet and restrictions.
  • Make sure the patient is following their prescribed diet.

FOR SAFETY WITH FOOD

  • Wash hands before and after touching food.
  • Check food for safe preparation and transport.
  • Use insulator bags for transporting food to keep it at the correct temperature.
  • Discard food left at room temperature for over two hours to prevent bacteria growth.
  • Outside food and drinks should be ready to eat, no extra preparation required.
  • Avoid raw, undercooked, or unpasteurized food to prevent food poisoning from bacteria like Salmonella or E. coli, etc.

FOR STORAGE AND DISPOSAL

  • Outside food will not be reheated or stored. Throw away any leftovers.
  • To prevent leftovers, pack the right amount of food in small containers for each meal.
